ESMO 2024 | Managing post-treatment fatigue in breast cancer with behavioral interventions

Antonio Di Meglio, MD, PhD, Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France, comments on associations between high interleukin six (IL-6) levels and increased fatigue in breast cancer survivors, noting that pre-treatment IL-6 levels correlated with fatigue two years post-diagnosis. The findings highlight the potential for early intervention in modifiable behavioral factors and inflammation to impact fatigue outcomes positively. Further prospective studies are needed to determine if targeted inflammation and behavior management could help mitigate severe fatigue following breast cancer treatment. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
