ESMO 2024 | Associations between inflammation, behaviors, and CRF in breast cancer survivors

Antonio Di Meglio, MD, PhD, Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France, discusses how pre-treatment inflammation and health behaviors impact cancer-related fatigue (CRF) post-treatment in survivors of breast cancer. Results show that high pre-treatment IL-6 levels were significantly associated with post-treatment CRF and linked to factors such as obesity, inactivity, and smoking. Additionally, post-treatment inflammation was linked to weight gain and reduced physical activity. Targeting modifiable behaviors early could help manage CRF by reducing chronic inflammation. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
