ESSO 44 | Implications of low ctDNA detectability in peritoneal metastases from colon cancer

Marc Pocard, MD, PhD, Hospital Lariboisière Department of Visceral Cancer and Endocrine Surgery, Paris, France, discusses the challenges of detecting circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with peritoneal metastases from colon cancer, highlighting that his team’s prospective study using a sensitive KRAS mutation detection method found ctDNA in only one out of 16 patients. Prof. Pocard notes that this confirms previous results suggesting that peritoneal carcinomatosis may be different from other metastatic sites, with possible implications for chemosensitivity and ctDNA release into the bloodstream. This interview took place at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO 44) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
