ESSO 44 | Limitations of CT scans in peritoneal carcinomatosis and the need for blood-based tests

Marc Pocard, MD, PhD, Hospital Lariboisière Department of Visceral Cancer and Endocrine Surgery, Paris, France, discusses the limitations of CT scans in evaluating peritoneal carcinomatosis and the need for blood-based tests to assess disease progression and treatment response. Prof. Pocard notes that circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), including specific mutations such as KRAS, is not yet a reliable solution, and that other options, such as tumor cells, are more challenging to develop and study, highlighting the need for a simple and cost-effective alternative. This interview took place at the 44th Congress of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO 44) in Gothenburg, Sweden.
