Leonardo Ferreira, PhD, The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Charleston, SC, gives an overview of issues relating to the use of CAR-T cells for solid tumors. Unlike in liquid tumors, solid tumors have a more immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, and T-cell exhaustion is a common occurrence. Low oxygen, glucose and glutamine can also reduce the efficacy of CAR-T cells, as well as physical barriers such as the extracellular matrix. This interview took place at American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024 in San Diego, CA.
