SITC 2022 | How can racial disparities affect patient care in oncology?

Carmen Guerra, MD, MSCE, FACP, Perlman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, describes how racial disparities in oncology manifest in patient care and outcomes. Patients may refuse treatment due to cultural myths perpetuated within the community and audiovisual materials explaining certain procedures may help debunk these falsehoods. Patients additionally may be less likely to have a caregiver due to socioeconomic factors and feel like a burden to their caregiver. This interview took place at the 37th Annual Meeting of the Society for Immunotherapy in Cancer (SITC 2022) in Boston, MA.
