Anna Bettina Sobottka-Brillout, MD, PhD, University Hospital Zürich, Zürich, Switzerland, comments on a study that assessed CD8+ T-cell infiltration in metastatic melanoma using digital pathology. Tumor infiltrating T-cells, particularly CD8+ T-cells, are one of the most relevant predictive biomarkers in immuno-oncology. This study developed a robust and quantitative measurement of T-cell infiltration density in different tumor compartments. In addition, the diagnostic algorithm developed enabled the correlation of immune cell density with clinically relevant tumor immunophenotypes. This diagnostic algorithm may improve the prediction of immunotherapy treatment outcomes. This interview took place during the 10th World Congress of Melanoma in conjunction with the 17th EADO Congress Interactive Virtual Meeting.
