ASCO GI 2025 | Multidisciplinary approach in treating immunotherapy-resistant GI cancers

Xuefeng Leng, MD, PhD, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), Chengdu, China, discusses the ongoing challenges in oncology, particularly in treating patients with cancers such as esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, where immunotherapy may not be effective for all patients. Given the complexity of these cases, Dr Leng urges for cancer centers to organize multidisciplinary team (MDT) discussions that go beyond clinical data. Pathological data plays a crucial role in making informed decisions, and by leveraging the expertise of a diverse team, therapies can be tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient. This interview took place at the ASCO GI Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
