BTOG 2025 | Liquid biopsy accelerates genotyping & reduces costs in advanced NSCLC: findings from the PLAN study

David O’Reilly, MBBCh, BAO, MSc, MRCPI, Beaumont RCSI Cancer Centre, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, discusses the findings of a The PLAN Study (NCT05542485), a prospective clinical trial on liquid biopsy in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Conducted across four cancer centers in Ireland, the study showed that liquid biopsy reduced the time to genotyping results by three weeks, with a median turnaround time of just eight days. A micro-costing analysis revealed that liquid biopsy was significantly more cost-effective than tissue biopsy, highlighting its potential to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary procedures. This interview took place at the BTOG 2025 congress in Belfast, UK.
