ICCN 2022 | The role of the nurse in public health policy

Stella Aguinaga Bialous, RN, DrPH, FAAN, University of California San Francisco School of Nursing, San Francisco, CA, describes the important role of nurses and nursing organizations in the development and implementation of public health policy. Some of the different ways nurses can engage in health policy include the publication of press releases and position statements, as well as expressing opinions on how they think certain health policies may impact their patients and communities. She discusses challenges surrounding dissemination and implementation of health policy at the local level and highlights the importance of helping nurses to understand how position statements are tools to help the policy agenda. This interview took place at the virtual 2022 International Conference on Cancer Nursing (ICCN).
