ESMO 2024 | Personalized approaches in metastatic urothelial carcinoma treatment

Patrizia Giannatempo, MD, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy, discusses emerging options for treating metastatic urothelial carcinoma. The three key treatment choices are cisplatin-gemcitabine with maintenance therapy, cisplatin-gemcitabine plus nivolumab, and enfortumab vedotin plus pembrolizumab. Personalized therapy is becoming crucial, factoring in patient characteristics such as biological age and comorbidities, alongside disease specifics like tumor location. Considering patient preferences and quality of life when making treatment decisions, particularly for those with advanced upper tract tumors or poor performance status, where enfortumab vedotin plus pembrolizumab may be the only viable option. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
