ESMO 2024 | Enhancing early detection of musculoskeletal toxicity in breast cancer therapy

Pietro Lapidari, MD, Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France, describes efforts to identify patients at risk for musculoskeletal toxicity related to aromatase inhibitor therapy, using predictive models to guide early supportive care interventions. By focusing on symptom interception and improving adherence to adjuvant endocrine therapy, clinicians aim to enhance patients’ quality of life. Future steps involve incorporating serum biomarkers and genomic data to refine these models, addressing patient variability and further optimizing personalized care. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
