SABCS 2024 | INSEMA: non-inferiority of avoiding SLNB in early breast cancer

Puneet Singh, MD, MS, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, comments on findings from the INSEMA trial (NCT02466737), which evaluated whether omitting sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) during breast-conserving therapy compromises invasive disease-free survival (iDFS) in patients with early breast cancer. 5-year iDFS rates showed non-inferiority in iDFS between patients receiving no SLNB and those undergoing SLNB. The overall survival was also promising in both arms, which reflects findings from the SOUND trial (NCT02167490). This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
