Virginia Kaklamani, MD, UT Health San Antonio, San Antonio, TX, mentions the key highlights from the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) 2024. The EMBER-3 trial (NCT04975308) demonstrated that imlunestrant therapy led to significantly longer progression-free survival (PFS) than standard treatment for those with ESR1 (estrogen receptor 1) mutations in breast cancer. The PATINA study (NCT02947685) revealed that the addition of palbociclib to anti-HER2 and endocrine therapy led to a median PFS of 44 months in patients with HR+/HER2+ metastatic breast cancer. These findings can be translated towards the de-escalation of therapy for the appropriate patient populations in future clinical practices. This interview took place at the 2024 SABCS congress in San Antonio, TX.
