Nicola Keohane, BSc, MSc, St James’s Hospital, Dublin, Ireland, highlights the need to address the unique and complex challenges facing young patients with onset cancer. Surveys and focus group discussions have revealed that patients are lacking holistic, structured interventions, with the vast majority expressing their need for financial, fertility and sexual health advice. Although the patients expressed satisfaction regarding the nursing and medical model of care, over 50% felt that their diagnosis was unduly prolonged. St James’s Hospital has consequently created a young onset cancer program, providing patients with a specialized service and structured intervention. This interview took place at the ASCO GI Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
