GU Cancers 2025 | Managing oligoprogressive kidney cancer with radiation therapy

Chad Tang, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, examines the challenge presented by oligoprogressive kidney cancer – where certain lesions grow despite effective systemic therapy. Dr Tang describes a randomized study investigating whether targeted radiation therapy can control these progressing sites while allowing patients to remain on their current treatment. This approach aims to extend the effectiveness of systemic therapy and delay the need for a new line treatment. This interview took place at the ASCO GU Cancers Symposium 2025 in San Francisco, CA.
