BCC 2025 | Do all low-burden breast cancer cases need regional node irradiation?

Orit Kaidar-Person, MD, Sheba Medical Center, Ramat Gan, Israel, comments on the shift in radiation therapy for patients with node-positive breast cancer and low volume nodal disease, stating that a majority of patients may not require regional nodal irradiation. New genomic testing and trials have evaluated the effectiveness of this approach, and these new techniques will provide more accurate estimates of radiation dose to lymph nodes, moving away from current estimation-based methods. This interview took place at the 2025 St. Gallen International Breast Cancer Consensus Meeting in Vienna, Austria.
