Georges Mjaess, MD, MPH, Hôpital Universitaire de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium, discusses the AURA trial (NCT03674424), which evaluated surgical outcomes in patients with muscle invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) undergoing radical cystectomy after neoadjuvant avelumab and chemotherapy. A higher incidence of severe complications was observed in the combination therapy group, but did not affect length of hospital stay. Findings also suggest that Bricker diversion may reduce complication risks compared to a bladder reconstruction, and robotic surgery may offer advantages over open procedures. This interview took place at the 2025 European Association of Urology (EAU) Congress in Madrid, Spain.
