EADO/WCM 2025 | Cross-resistance between targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors in melanoma

Grant McArthur, MBBS, FRACP, PhD, FAHMS, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Melbourne, Australia, discusses the importance of understanding the interaction between immune checkpoint therapy and targeted therapy in melanoma. Dr McArthur notes that following progression on targeted therapy, the immune microenvironment becomes barren, with an accumulation of unfavorable tumor microenvironment induced by targeted therapy, characterized by high T-regulatory cells and low T-effector cells. This understanding will allow for more rational sequencing of targeted therapy and immunotherapy in individual patients. This interview took place at the 11th World Congress of Melanoma and 21st EADO Congress in Athens, Greece.
