ASCO 2026 | Can steroid use as antiemetic prophylaxis be avoided in pediatric and adolescent patients?

Venkatraman Radhakrishnan, MD, Cancer Institute (WIA), Chennai, India, describes the rationale for reducing steroid use in the pediatric patient population, which formed the background for a Phase III trial of olanzapine as a prophylactic antiemetic (CTRI/2022/08/045009). Dr Radhakrishnan highlights the toxicities of steroid use in children, including osteonecrosis, growth retardation and metabolic issues, and explains how data from the Phase III trial can provide evidence for their decreased use. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
