WCLC 2026 | Targeting macrophages to prevent neuroendocrine transformation in lung cancer

Triparna Sen, PhD, The Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, comments on the importance of understanding the immune microenvironment’s contribution to neuroendocrine transformation in small cell lung cancer, highlighting the role of monocyte-derived macrophages in this process. Targeting this class of macrophages could lead to innovative therapeutic strategies, such as using lipid nanoparticles, and combinatorial approaches with current immunotherapies, like immune checkpoint blockade or T-cell engagers, as well as EGFR TKIs. This interview took place at the IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
