ESMO 2026 | Recurrence rates in patients with CSCC treated with neoadjuvant cemiplimab
Neil Gross, MD, FACS, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the final analysis of a non-randomized phase II trial (NCT04154943), which showed no new late recurrences in patients treated with neoadjuvant cemiplimab for advanced resectable cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC). 51% of patients achieved a complete pathologic response and only one received adjuvant radiation. Dr Gross highlights that the lack of recurrence in the long-term continues to support this approach, although it is a small randomized phase II trial and the results should be interpreted with caution. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
