ESMO 2026 | Could complete responders with CSCC avoid surgery?

Neil Gross, MD, FACS, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, discusses the need for caution when considering non-operative management for patients with cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) who show a complete response, emphasizing the importance of randomized data to ensure safety. Dr Gross highlights that the current standard of care is still upfront surgery, and that pathologic information from surgery provides valuable insights into the potential need for additional treatments such as radiation or adjuvant therapy. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
