ESMO 2026 | Treating triple negative early breast cancer after optimal neoadjuvant therapy

Joana Ribeiro, MD, Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France, describes post-neoadjuvant strategies for patients with residual disease after optimal neoadjuvant treatment, highlighting key decision points such as the use of checkpoint inhibitors and response to treatment. For patients with germline BRCA mutation and residual disease, the optimal treatment is olaparib, while for those without a germline BRCA mutation, options include pembrolizumab, capecitabine, or a combination of pembrolizumab and olaparib, depending on the residual disease burden and risk of recurrence. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
