Ronan Joseph Kelly, MBA, MBBCh, MD, from the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, Baltimore, MD, discusses the treatment of gastric and esophageal cancer with pembrolizumab or nivolumab, whereby patients with Epstein-Barr virus or microsatellite instability have been found to respond better to therapy. He states that current research is focused on combining multiple immunotherapeutic agents, with the hope to benefit patients who are PDL1-negative or do not have the aforementioned subsets of cancer.
