ASCO 2025 | CheckMate 577: final OS results of adjuvant nivolumab in EC/GEJC
Ronan Joseph Kelly, MD, Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX, discusses the final overall survival (OS) findings from the CheckMate 577 trial (NCT02743494) of adjuvant nivolumab in patients with resected esophageal or gastroesophageal junction cancer (EC/GEJC) following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. Nivolumab showed sustained disease-free survival benefit and a numerical, though not statistically significant, improvement in overall survival compared to placebo. Distant metastasis-free survival and progression-free survival on subsequent therapy also favored nivolumab. The safety profile remained consistent with earlier findings, supporting continued use of adjuvant nivolumab in this setting. This interview took place during the 2025 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
