WCCS 2022 | Identifying and managing patients at high risk of developing melanoma

Susana Puig Sardá, MD, PhD, Hospital Clínic Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain, discusses identifying patients who are at high-risk of developing melanoma and how to manage them. Risk factors include genetic susceptibility, including family history of melanoma and if the patient has had previous melanomas. Patients who previously had other skin cancers and a familial history of other cancers are also at increased risk of melanoma and familial history of other cancer, as well as environmental factors such as chronic sun exposure. Recommendations for patients who are at high-risk of melanoma include sun avoidance, sun protection and dermatological follow-up. This interview took place at the 18th World Congress on Cancers of the Skin (WCCS 2022) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
