ESMO 2022 | The rise of de-escalation strategies in cancer care

Michiel Strijbos, MD, GasthuisZusters Antwerpen, Antwerp, Belgium, discusses the increased focus on de-escalation strategies in recent years, which he partly attributes to better communication between physicians and patient advocacy. Physicians tend to see patients in clinics and on wards and are often focused on acute toxicity over long-term toxicity. However, recent investigations into de-escalation strategies have been aiming to decrease the burden of long-term toxicities for patients while not adversely impacting clinical outcomes. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2022 Congress in Paris, France.
