ESMO 2024 | Novel and emerging treatment strategies in refractory metastatic colorectal cancer
Rocio Garcia-Carbonero, MD, PhD, University Hospital 12 De Octubre, Madrid, Spain, comments on the treatment landscape for refractory metastatic colorectal cancer. Regorafenib, a multi-kinase inhibitor, demonstrated survival benefits in the CORRECT study (NCT01103323) but has tolerability challenges. TAS-102, an oral cytotoxic agent, improved survival in the RECOURSE trial (NCT01607957). The SUNLIGHT trial (NCT04737187) revealed survival benefits from adding bevacizumab to TAS-102. Additionally, the FRESCO-2 trial (NCT04322539) offers evidence for using fruquintinib in fourth-line settings, with promising efficacy across different prior treatments. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2024 Congress in Barcelona, Spain.
