ESMO Asia 2023 | The future of squamous cell carcinoma research at ESMO Asia 2023

Brian Henick, MD, Columbia University Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, New York, NY, discusses the next steps in squamous cell carcinoma research. The current goal is to find the best ways to stratify the disease into appropriate subtypes and decipher how therapeutic approaches should differ between these. Potential targets for these approaches include PD-L1 blockade in addition to novel checkpoints like CTLA4. To better treat this disease, knowledge surrounding tumor genomics and metabolic states must be analyzed with a view to compartmentalizing these subtypes. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Asia 2023 Congress in Singapore.
