Naomi Kiyota, MD, Kobe University Hospital, Kobe, Japan, comments on the challenges of implementing the electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) monitoring system in clinical practice in Japan, citing the high cost of the system and the requirement for physicians to personally assess and respond to alerts. Nurses are not typically allowed to intervene in this process, presenting an additional hurdle, but an artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted system may help alleviate some of these challenges for physicians. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
