VJVirtual | Diversity, equity and inclusion in SITC

Leisha A. Emens • 19 Aug 2022

Leisha A. Emens, MD, PhD, UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre, Pittsburgh, PA, discusses an initiative to promote diversity, equity and inclusion in research which will be discussed at the upcoming Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) annual meeting. This initiative will provide a pathway for underrepresented individuals to enter the field of research. This program targets college students at historically underserved institutions. These students will attend SITC meetings, hear lectures and presentations, explore scientific posters, and speak with scientists in the field. There will also be a mentoring program, giving these students the chance to network with peers and senior mentors. They will be able to learn from individuals from minority groups in different fields of cancer research, to gain exposure to a variety of careers in science and medicine. This initiative aims to create a pathway to build the research workforce. This interview was recorded via an online conference call with The Video Journal of Oncology (VJOncology).
