Leisha A. Emens, MD, PhD, UPMC Hillman Cancer Centre, Pittsburgh, PA, provides an overview of the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer (SITC) virtual summit on the clinical research crisis. Key areas identified at the summit include staffing issues and clinical trial conduct inefficiencies. Additionally, regulatory requirements are becoming more complex and when combined with understaffing this creates a large burden. COVID-19 has precipitated this crisis and has contributed to the current lower (20% less than pre-pandemic) clinical trial accrual levels. This interview was recorded via an online conference call with The Video Journal of Oncology (VJOncology).
