ASCO 2023 | Overcoming the limitations encountered when working with large-scale oncology datasets

Neil Shah, MBBS, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, highlights the barriers and challenges faced when working with large-scale oncology datasets. One major limitation is data overload, with an abundance of unstructured data that is difficult to extract and utilize effectively. The informatics and data science communities aim to address this by structuring the data and making it easily accessible for clinicians. Physician engagement is also crucial, as different physicians have varying interests and needs. Efforts are being made to connect domain experts and provide data through tools like Tableau dashboards to meet their specific requirements. By addressing these challenges, the goal is to empower clinicians with valuable and actionable insights from the datasets. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Annual Congress in Chicago, IL.
