ASCO 2023 | Challenges and solutions in managing big data in oncology

Neil Shah, MBBS, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, discusses the challenges associated with big data in oncology and proposes potential solutions or strategies to overcome these obstacles. The need to manage and make the large data sets easier to handle, as it surpasses human capacity, is emphasized. One solution is to provide data in specific formats to experts in various fields, such as data experts, clinicians, and scientists, as not all data is relevant to everyone. Additionally, leveraging technology and computational power, particularly through machine learning models, can help process the complex data more quickly. Dr Shah suggests a hybrid model combining machine learning and human interaction to create a product that can assist clinicians. This interview took place at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) 2023 Annual Congress in Chicago, IL.
