WCLC 2022 | Findings from the sexual health assessment in woman in lung cancer (SHAWL) study

Narjust Florez, MD, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston, MA, shares findings from the sexual health assessment in woman in lung cancer (SHAWL) study. 249 woman with lung cancer were included in the study, over 60% of participants were receiving targeted therapy. Sexual health was assessed via the PROMIS questionnaire on sexual health assessment. 77% of study participants were found to have severe sexual dysfunction, with the majority of woman having little to no interest in sexual activity. The main causes of lack of interest included fatigue, shortness of breath and depression. Overall, the SHWAL study showed the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in woman with lung cancer is considerably high and needs to be addressed. This interview took place at the IASLC 2022 World Conference on Lung Cancer congress in Vienna, Austria.
