ESMO GI 2024 | Neoadjuvant checkpoint inhibition with radiotherapy in MSI-H/dMMR rectal cancer

Juan Manuel O’Connor, MD, MSc, Instituto Alexander Fleming, Buenos Aires, Argentina, gives an overview of the Phase II ES2201 trial (NCT04751370), which investigated neoadjuvant nivolumab plus ipilimumab combined with short course radiation in patients with microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H)/deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) rectal tumors. The primary endpoint, pathological complete response, was promising, particularly in patients who subsequently underwent surgery. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
