SABCS 2024 | HIF-2α as an alternate therapeutic target in ER+ breast cancer

Bora Lim, MD, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, comments on the use of CDK4/6 inhibitors as a first-line treatment option for estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) breast cancer. The identification of an alternate pathway as a therapeutic target could overcome treatment resistance by controlling ER. HIF-2α (hypoxia-inducible factor-2α) is a potential novel target in ER+ breast cancer and the prospect of achieving positive results from targeting this pathway could open up a new era of treatments for breast cancer. This interview took place at the 2024 San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS) congress in San Antonio, TX.
