ASCO 2026 | Pre-pectoral IBBR and oncologic safety following mastectomy

Walter Weber, MD, University Hospital Basel, Basel, Switzerland, comments on concerns that pre-pectoral implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) may leave residual cancer and impact oncologic safety, which is being investigated further. In addition, Prof. Weber comments on how the impact of radiotherapy on outcomes has not been looked at in detail but will be the subject of future studies. This interview took place during the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Meeting in Chicago, IL.
