GU Cancers 2025 | Advancements in bladder cancer treatment at ASCO GU 2025
Guru Sonpavde, MD, AdventHealth Cancer Institute, Orlando, FL, discusses developments in bladder cancer, specifically the Phase III NIAGARA trial (NCT03732677), which evaluated neoadjuvant gemcitabine/cisplatin with or without durvalumab. The trial demonstrated improvements in event-free survival (EFS), overall survival, and pathological complete response (pCR) rates. Notably, both pCR and non-pCR patients appeared to benefit from the adjuvant durvalumab component, highlighting the need for further research, potentially incorporating circulating tumor (ctDNA), to refine patient selection for adjuvant therapy.
