BTOG 2023 | Optimizing smoking cessation in the UK through lung cancer screening programs

Rachael Murray, PhD, University of Nottingham, Nottingham, UK, outlines how integrating smoking cessation programs in lung cancer screening has delivered some very promising quit rates as demonstrated through programs set out in London and Manchester. Dr Murray highlights that high quality individual interventions, face to face discussions, and pharmacotherapy have been shown to produce quit rates of between 25-30% at 3 and 12 months, demonstrating a long term efficacious outcome following targeted lung health checks. This interview took place at the British Thoracic Oncology Group (BTOG) Annual Conference 2023 in Belfast, UK.
