SMR 2024 | Enhanced monitoring of high-risk resectable melanoma with plasma ctDNA assays

Meghan Mooradian, MD, Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, comments on the evolving approaches and challenges with the treatment of high-risk resectable melanoma. Current barriers include the lack of individualized treatments for patients with macroscopic stage III or resectable stage IV melanoma, and the need for better tools to override false positives and undetected microscopic disease. Dr Mooradian introduces a novel study that utilizes a tumor-informed plasma next-generation sequencing circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) assay to enhance the monitoring of high-risk melanoma. Patients in perioperative and adjuvant cohorts were monitored for treatment response and relapse through timed blood draws with scans. This interview took place at the 21st International Congress of the Society for Melanoma Research (SMR) in New Orleans, LA.
