ESMO GI 2024 | EMERALD-1: durvalumab, bevacizumab and TACE in unresectable HCC

Stephen Chan, MBBS, MRCP, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China, discusses the Phase III EMERALD-1 study (NCT03778957) of durvalumab and bevacizumab with TACE versus TACE alone in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC). The study found that addition of immunotherapy significantly improved progression-free survival and time to progression compared to TACE alone. Although treatment-emergent hepatic events were higher in the combination therapy arm, these were mostly low-grade, indicating a favorable risk-benefit profile for this combination therapy. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancers Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
