ESMO GI 2024 | Biomarker-driven treatments for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Filippo Pietrantonio, MD, Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan, Italy, discusses how biomarker-driven treatments have transformed therapeutic strategies for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. For patients with positive PD-L1 expression, the current recommendation is to use immunotherapy in combination with chemotherapy. Additionally, emerging data on neoadjuvant therapy indicate that combining chemotherapy with immunotherapy may lead to promising pathological complete response (pCR) rates. This interview took place at 2024 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Cancer Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
