ASCO GI 2024 | Artificial intelligence approaches to palliative and supportive care

Ravi Bharat Parikh, MD, MPP, FACP, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, discusses the integration of multimodal data, including imaging, genomics, and clinical information, in the context of artificial intelligence applications in palliative and supportive care. He emphasizes three key areas: predictive modeling to identify individuals at high risk of adverse events for targeted goals of care conversations, the use of conversational AI to enhance symptom management for cancer patients, and leveraging natural language processing to extract supportive care elements from unstructured clinical text in electronic health records. The integration of these technologies aims to improve risk assessments and personalized treatment strategies in oncology. This interview took place at the 2024 ASCO Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers Symposium in San Francisco, CA.
