ELCC 2022 | The current status of lung cancer screening implementation

Matthijs Oudkerk, MD, PhD, University of Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands, talks on the Dutch-Belgian Randomized Lung Cancer Screening Trial (NELSON), and the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) (NCT000473850) that demonstrated screening for lung cancer by low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) reduces lung cancer mortality. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force subsequently revised the recommendation for the implementation of lung cancer screening, initiating lung cancer screening with LDCT in the U.S. A large European study involving multiple countries will commence in the coming year to investigate the optimal method for implementing lung cancer screening in Europe. This interview took place during the virtual European Lung Cancer Congress 2022.
