ESMO 2026 | Choosing between abiraterone & darolutamide in prostate cancer

Tamim Niazi, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, highlights the regulatory pathway and clinical evidence for androgen receptor inhibitors in prostate cancer treatment, comparing outcomes from the STAMPEDE (NCT00268476) and DASL-HiCaP trial (ANZUP1801; NCT04136353). While STAMPEDE showed negative primary results overall, a subset of patients with pelvic lymph node disease or prior pelvic radiation therapy benefited from additional radiation therapy. The choice between darolutamide and abiraterone hinges on tolerability and toxicity profiles, but the DASL-HiCaP patient population differed from STAMPEDE eligibility criteria. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
