ESMO 2026 | KEYNOTE-866: perioperative pembrolizumab with chemotherapy in MIBC

Jens Bedke, MD, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, Tübingen, Germany, discusses results from the Phase III KEYNOTE-866 study (NCT03924856), which evaluated perioperative pembrolizumab versus placebo added to neoadjuvant gemcitabine and cisplatin in cisplatin-eligible patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Addition of pembrolizumab did not confer a statistically significant benefit in event-free survival, and pathological complete response and overall survival were not formally tested. The safety profile of pembrolizumab was manageable and consistent with prior reports. This interview took place at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) 2026 Congress in Madrid, Spain.
