AACR 2022 | Patient-reported health-related quality of life as a prognostic factor for young cancer patients

Michelle Hildebrandt, PhD, and Goldy C. George, PhD, of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, discuss the potential benefits of monitoring patient reported health-related quality of life (HRQoL) from diagnosis in adolescent and young adult cancer patients. Similar studies previously carried out with adult solid tumor populations have shown that HRQoL significantly impacts long term patient outcomes including overall survival (OS). Patients reporting poorer HRQoL at diagnosis have been shown to have inferior prognoses independent of tumor type. Identification of such patients could significantly influence monitoring and therapy regimes and lead to improved long-term outcomes for this cohort. This interview was recorded at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2022 in New Orleans, LA.
