ESMO Breast 2025 | Evaluating SRS as a standard treatment for brain metastases in breast cancer

Icro Meattini, MD, University of Florence, Florence, Italy, discusses the rationale for considering stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) as a standard treatment for brain metastases in breast cancer, noting its increasing use over whole brain radiotherapy (WBRT). SRS can deliver high-dose, ablative treatment to single or multiple lesions with precision, but multifactorial treatment assessment and further research into optimal sequencing between radiotherapy and systemic therapies are needed to address ongoing clinical questions. Dr Meattini also highlights the importance of assessing key clinical outcomes such as survival and intracranial control. This interview took place at the 2025 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Breast Cancer Annual Congress in Munich, Germany.
